Paprika
[also Sweet Pepper or Hungarian Pepper]
(Capiscum annuum)
Family: Solanaceae
Paprika is made from a type of Chile Pepper, by powdering sweet red
peppers that have been dried and finely ground. Paprika is closely associated
with Hungarian cuisine, and comes in both sweet or hot flavors depending
on the number of seeds ground in. There is also a Spanish version called
pimentôn. Paprika is used in goulashes, white sauces, meat and
chicken dishes, cream soups and cream cheese. Also see Chili.
