Fennel
[also Fennel Seed]
(Foeniculum vulgare)
Family: Umbelliferae
Fennel Seed is the oval, green or yellowish-brown dried fruit of Foeniculum
vulgare, a member of the parsley family. Fennel can also refer to a
different part of a closely related plant, used primarily as a vegetable,
but both types are aromatic vegetables with feathery foliage. The fennel
seed has a warm, sweet, agreeable flavor and an odor similar to licorice
and anise seed.
