Family: Fabaceae
Probably a native of tropical America but now found in both hemispheres,
including the Pacific Rim and Pacific and Indian Ocean islands. The
plant is a fast-growing climber with pinnate leaves, and displays a
bright cobalt-blue pea flower which yields a blue dye when crushed and
boiled in water. The dye is used to color desserts, sweets and cakes
in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
